Magnificat Home opened its first home on September 1, 2009, at 119 Clerk Street, Jersey City, NJ, 07305, in what was formerly Our Lady of Sorrows Convent, just off Claremont Avenue. A non-profit,
Class C Boarding Home, it offers single rooms, three meals daily, and assistance with medication if required. Its mission is to provide a safe, beautiful, nurturing home for adult women. We are
excited to be expanding to a second residence at "Mary's Place" - the former convent at St. Paul's Parish in Jersey City. Once we make the necessary renovations, including a sprinkler system and a
upgraded ventilation system for the range hood, we can welcome up to 30 residents in this space.
•We accept women 18 years or older who are free of a recent history of violence or substance abuse. Applicants must be ambulatory, autonomous adults, capable of climbing stairs and responsible for
their own lives.
•Our monthly charge for room/board is $950.00, however we do accept SSI or SSD (minus $100 Personal Needs Allowance) as full payment for those with no other income.
•We are NOT a temporary shelter, nursing home, group home, or a facility for rehabilitation, or specifically for pregnant or abused women. (We welcome pregnant or abused women.)
•We are a permanent home for low-income women, especially those dependent upon Social Security who may need assistance with medication.
